EARTHEN STRUCTURE FOR THE WHISPERING SEED (THAI/BURMA BORDER) 2008

Using concepts gleaned from an arches, vaults, and domes workshop in India, we organized/co-taught a natural building workshop (led by Seven Generations Natural Buildersat the Whispering Seed.  Not only did we build a house at this home for orphaned and abused Burmese children, but the workshop also help raise unrestricted funds for the Whispering Seed.

CENTRAL ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS (BEIJING, CHINA) 2005

Student work from a bamboo design/build studio intensive at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA).   While working with the International Network of Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR), I served as the teaching assistant for this studio.

GUESTHOUSE AND FASTING ROOM FOR BROWN'S FIELD (MISAKI-MACHI, JAPAN) 2004

Collaborative design/build with Japanese designer Keiya Urata in rural Chiba prefecture.  Fasting room features a reciprocal frame roof that we pre-fabricated in a local carpenter's shop.  Guesthouse was made by retrofitting a dormant rice barn.

BROWN'S FIELD TREEHOUSE (MISAKI-MACHI, JAPAN) 2008

Collaborated with Japanese architect Ikuko Nishimura and two playful carpenters on a treehouse design/build for Brown's Field in Chiba prefecture.  Structure serves a guesthouse for visitors of this macrobiotic cafe, fasting center, and rice farm.

EARTHEN ARCHES, VAULTS, AND DOMES (PONDICHERRY, INDIA) 2007

Architectonic travel to southern India.  Spent one month learning theory and hands-on application of arches, vaults, and domes, as well as the cement stabilized earthen bricks used in the creation of the aforementioned structures.
